Here's A Sample of what's going on at The Library
Happy New Year! Hope your new year is off to a great start and I hope too that you will make the library a regular stop this year. We have many new books in large print and regular print, books on CD, DVDs, and great new materials for kids and teens. But also remember that we can always inter-loan items that you don’t find on our shelves. Our library staff is happy to place inter-loans for you or you may do so yourself from our public access computers (in the adult section near the circulation desk) or from your home or office computer or laptop.Remember that your “pin number” is the last four digits of your phone number. With the Smithsonian Institution’s Key Ingredients and Michigan Humanities Council Michigan Food Ways exhibits being here later in 2007 this will be a very busy and exciting year here at WLCL. Plans for the community cookbook “Remembered Recipes, Shared Stories…A Culinary Journey Along the Shoreline” are progressing well. We received between 130-140 recipes and stories and lots of great pictures for this unique “one of a kind” cookbook. The beautiful cover artwork was drawn by local artist Julie Hegedus. Now we are in the typesetting, layout and proofing segment of the project. Cathy Russell’s recipe for “Asparagus Red Pepper Tart” was selected by the cook book committee as White Lake’s entry in a statewide recipe contest. Each of the six Key Ingredients sites were asked to select one recipe to enter into a statewide contest. Let’s hope that Cathy’s will be selected as the statewide winner. Wouldn’t that be great? More information on specific Key Ingredients/Michigan Food Ways events will be forthcoming. We are planning to hold a pig roast, ice cream social, fish boil and much more in the coming months. Watch for ads in The Beacon and here at the library as you won’t want to miss out. Remember too…we need lots of volunteers to make these events and the Key Ingredients/Michgan Food Ways experience the “once in a lifetime “ experience that it is meant to be. Ask at the circulation desk the next time you stop by. Guess that’s all for now! Thanks again for your support of our library and helping making it a destination in the White Lake area and far beyond.
